Modi could be charged for communal violence in Godhra: Report


Ahmedabad: Narendra Modi’s Godhra riot’s related woes are far from over. According to a leading national daily Raju Ramachandran, the amicus curiae in the Zakia Jafri case of 2002 post-Godhra riots, has said that the Gujarat Chief Minister could be charged in connection with communal violence.
Leading national daily The Hindu claimed that in the report, which has not yet been made public, Ramachandran has reportedly rejected Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) view that there is no concrete evidence to chargesheet Modi. It reported that Ramachandran has shared his report on the Gujarat riots with the Supreme Court appointed SIT.
According to the daily, the statements by senior Gujarat police officers, including Sanjiv Bhatt, could help frame the charges against the CM.

The communal riots of 2002 riots claimed over 1,200 lives in Gujarat.
If convicted, Narendra Modi could face charges of promoting enmity between communities, imputations and assertions prejudicial to national integration, public servant disobeying a direction of the law with the intent to cause injury among others.
