New Delhi: “ I was introduced in the world of cinema as a dream girl rather than I put this very tag at my own,” explains veteran actress, dancer and also a political personality, Hema Malini in ‘Aamne-Samne’ with Ms. Anurradha Prasad, Editor-in-Chief of News 24.
Tracing her early days in Bollywood, the very temperamental Hema Malini informs that the very suffix of ‘dream-girl’ was put when she was introduced in her maiden film ‘Sapno Ka Saudagar’ with Raj Kapoor. ‘Was it tough to act opposite top actor like Raj Kapoor ? ‘While playing with her long tresses, she only said, “ He was a big time star then.” ‘ Are you re-launching your daughter Esha in soon to be released movie –Tell Me Oh Khuda, which is also starring Dharam ji?' Hema Malini said that this is not true that she is re-launching Esha as she has already acted in 25 films.“ After a break, Esha is once again doing a film. Dharam ji is also there along with the likes of Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor and Farooq Sheikh. It was very nice experience to work with them in a film which has a very powerful story. I have also directed the movie,” She informs. ‘Will Esha be in the league of Kareena and Katrina post Tell me oh Khuda ?’ Hema Malini said that she is not making this film in order to put Esha in the league of Kareena or Katrina. “ Esha is very simple girl with a group of friends.” ‘Was it tough for Esha to cut her teeth in Bollywood as it is said that Dharmendra ji was opposing her doing role in films?’ Hema Malini admits the fact it was not easy for Esha to enter Bollywood for the simple reason that Dharam ji belongs to very conservative family unlike her. “ Dharam ji was not even comfortable with her learning dance though he later soften his stand. He even used to tell me that I must not teach her dance,” she informs. ‘Did you regret that awards elude you most of the time despite your long shining film career?’ Hema Malini admits candidly that even though she used to be nominated for awards very often, she got an award for her role only in film 'Seeta Aur Geeta'. It is a different matter that now I get lot of awards. Replying a question related her career as politician and MP, Hema Malini feels that politics gives her ample opportunity to work for people and one can reach out to common men of India. “ As and when party ask me to campaign in any election, I give my services,” Hema Malini concludes.
