Bhatt, who has been charged with forcibly making a constable sign a false affidavit in the riots case, was arrested 17 days ago. The DIG level officer was suspended for "fabricating" evidence against Modi to implicate him in the 2002 riots cases.
Constable K D Pant had lodged an FIR against Bhatt, alleging that the officer had threatened him and made him sign a false affidavit with regards to the IPS officer's presence in the February 27, 2002 meeting called by the chief minister after the Godhra train burning incident.
BJP has stood firm behind Modi and even objected to Bhatt being called a "whistleblower" by some sections of the media and NGOs.
The party has charged that Bhatt was working hand in glove with some civil rights activists opposed to Modi and was trying to falsely implicate the chief minister. It had also justified his arrest on September 30.BJP says Bhatt bail routine, case still on against him
